Jeffrey L Segar, M.D. is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Director, Division of Neonatology at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and the UI Children’s Hospital. Dr. Segar received his undergraduate and medical degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Pediatric and neonatology training was obtained at the University of Iowa, where he has remained throughout his academic career. For over 20 years, Dr. Segar was continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health for his research focused on developmental cardiovascular physiology. He has authored over 80 peer reviewed manuscripts and multiple book chapters. Dr. Segar is also Director of the Iowa Statewide Perinatal Care Program, responsible for providing professional training, development of standards/guidelines of care, consultation to regional and primary providers and evaluation of the quality of care delivered to mothers and infants in Iowa with the goal of reducing perinatal morbidity and mortality. The Division of Neonatology at the University of Iowa has long fostered educational relationships with physicians and hospital in multiple countries. Dr. Segar has traveled to Romania, Lithuania and Ukraine educating providers. Working with the Issa Trust Foundation to further child health in Jamaica is consistant with this long standing philosophy that providing medical education and professional programs is central to improving global health.
